On
Sunday at Worcester, England's Womens Fifteen comprehensively beat the
Spanish Team 28 points to 12. The game was a rousing affair played in
foggy conditions which at times obscured the goal posts and scoreboard.
Nevertheless England's ladies showed that so far as ambition and commitment
are concerned, they are a match for the men's game. The scrummaging and
rucking was at times explosive, the back play adventurous and the only
area of play that could be said not to match the man's game was in the
matter of lifting at the line-out.
For those who have
yet to follow the ladies game, the match on Sunday was a good advertisement
and if there is anyone who doubts the game's suitability because of its
inherent physical nature, the next England Women's International (England
v Scotland) will be on Sunday March 4th at Richmond. England play France
at Northampton on Sunday April 8th.
